I knew at some point I was going to feel compelled to revisit the genre of landscape. Leaving it had allowed me to expand my palette and become less preoccupied with producing warm earthy tones. In this painting style I primarily used two devices. The first was homeomorphism; the repetition of shapes having similar form. The second was ‘Passage’; the rendering of fragmented interlocking planes to create spatial ambiguity. The application of paint in either solids or dappled strokes was a way to approximate the transcendent quality of stained glass windows, pairing a further refinement of form and color.
