Drawing, for an artist, is as basic as scales are for a musician. Similarly, good rendering gives us appreciation of artistic skill acquired through patient practice and innate ability. However, the task of transforming joyful sketching into an actual complete and satisfying ‘work’ is another thing altogether.

I have returned to this pursuit now, and rediscovered with growing fascination how much subtle decision-making contributes to this process; the outcome happily reflecting both the spontaneity of drawing and the integrity of a fully realized composition.
